WK4Y operates the SOHP All Bands from OBX.
Hello all,
I participated in the CQ WW WPX CW Contest this
past weekend from my Wife's Family's Beach House on the OBX NC, (Kill
Devil Hills). Out of the 36 hours allowed for Single Op entry, I
participated 22 hours. I had fun, don't think I will place high up in
the standings, but had a good time.
My equipment was as follows; Mark V Field,
transceiver, Alpha 76A Linear, Edith's Laptop, Cushcraft (D3)
tri-band dipole for 20, 15, and 10, and Tarheel brand, mobile screwdriver
antenna, used on 40 & 80 meters. The Dipole was 30 feet AGL
broadside to Europe and the South Pacific. The screwdriver mobile
antenna had a 21 foot extendable self-supporting whip at the top of the coil,
and a radial system under and attached to the trailblazer. 800 watts used
on all bands.
I was able to hear and be heard in Europe on 80
meters, but the static crashes made it difficult to copy. Made only a
few contacts there.
